1 in 5 young people aged 8 to 25 had a probable mental health condition in 2023, a sharp rise from 1 in 9 in 2017. Referrals to services now reach 120,000 a month, compared to 40,000 in 2016.
Pressures such as academics, social media, bullying, poverty, and limited access to professional support mean many young people aren’t getting the help they need. Parents, carers, teachers, and youth workers often see the signs but may not know how to respond.
Our Youth Mental Health First Aid England courses give adults the skills and confidence to spot poor mental health early and provide vital first-level support in young people aged 8 to 18. This can speed recovery, prevent decline, and even save lives.
We also empower learners to look after their own wellbeing, setting a positive example that mental health matters as much as physical health. Together, we can create supportive environments across schools, colleges, youth groups, communities, and families.
