Talking Mental Health and Wellbeing at the Heart of Yorkshire Teaching & Learning Conference 2026

I was delighted to be invited to speak at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group’s Teaching & Learning Conference 2026, joining colleagues from across the education sector for a day dedicated to sharing ideas, learning from one another and celebrating the importance of education.

It was a wonderful opportunity to talk to staff about something I am incredibly passionate about: mental health and wellbeing.

Working in education can be enormously rewarding, but it also comes with its challenges. Taking the time to recognise the importance of our own mental health, as well as supporting the wellbeing of those around us, is essential to creating positive, supportive environments where both staff and students can thrive.

During my session, I encouraged colleagues to think about the importance of open conversations around mental health, recognising when someone might be struggling and remembering that even the smallest gestures of kindness and understanding can make a real difference.

One of the key messages I wanted everyone to take away was that it’s okay to talk. Whether we’re supporting a colleague, a student or looking after our own wellbeing, creating a culture where people feel comfortable speaking openly about their mental health is incredibly important.

The conference was a fantastic opportunity for education professionals to come together, exchange experiences and explore new ways of supporting teaching, learning and personal development.

A huge thank you to the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group for inviting me to be part of such a positive and inspiring event. It was a pleasure to meet so many dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a difference.

And remember, #ITSOKAYTOTALK.
