Supervision for Schools and Colleges

Leadership and working in education in 2026 can be a stressful, lonely and overwhelming time.  It is important that the educators of children, and school leaders are cared for and supported within their own right as caring professionals. The saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup” rings true at a time when only two thirds of newly qualified teachers are still working in the profession after 5 years.

“Statistics published by the DfE reveal that of teachers who qualified in 2014, just 67.4 per cent were still in service after five years in 2019” (Tes Magazine)

For school leaders,  looking after the whole school community can understandably leave any senior leadership team feeling depleted and running on empty. Managing competing pressures in a fast changing world can be really testing.

For teachers and leaders considering leaving the English state school sector, high workload and stress and/or poor wellbeing were the two most commonly cited reasons (both reported by 89%)” (Department for Education)

Supervision provides a vital opportunity for teachers and school leaders to be able to process and explore in confidence the day to day challenges and acknowledge the emotional toll and stressors of working in a school environment; essential at a time when schools are increasingly being asked to step up and do more.  Long waiting lists for camhs and an ever stretched social care system can also mean that schools are expected and being asked to put in place high levels of support for many children and their families. Therefore school leaders, teachers and pastoral support teams need to be supported with their wellbeing and cared for within their own right.

Sarah has supported schools over the last 8 years as an independent mental health trainer and coach. (Dfe approved Senior Mental Health Lead Supplier and MHFA England instructor)  and she is now pleased to be offering wellbeing supervision sessions for senior leaders, teachers and pastoral support teams working in schools, colleges or in further education.

Headteachers who have received supervision from Sarah often describe how the time feels well spent. And that it gives them a chance to take a breathe, reflect, and talk through how they are; meaning that they then feel empowered to return to their school refreshed, renewed and reset.

“I really value these sessions – it helps to be able to talk to someone who is not from my academy trust and to be able to offload a little of what I carry”

“I have been looking forward to coming here today for my supervision session Sarah,  it has been my ‘glimmer’ this week”
